Forming Your Own Business: Franchising, Consulting, Contracting
The speaker this week will be Tom Vaillancourt of East Bay SCORE, America’s premier source of free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs.
- SCORE is an Organization of successful business entrepreneurs and industry executives who volunteer to counsel and mentor businesses at no cost – from start-up to success.
- Our mission is to provide professional guidance and information to America's existing and emerging small businesses.
- As a resource partner of the SBA, SCORE’s free counseling service includes business plans, financing availability and workshops that teach all aspects of business management.
Tom became a counselor in 2010 after selling his small business and retiring. Tom had worked in the Food Service Industry for most of his career, primarily selling coffee to hotels and restaurants. In 1996, he and his wife started a company to provide outside service business service departments in the greater Bay Area for coffee companies throughout the United States who sold coffee to national chains, to installing and maintaining the coffee, tea, chocolate, and espresso equipment for hotels, hospitals, restaurant, etc.
Tom’s commitment to SCORE stems from a SCORE workshop he attended prior to starting his business titled, “Starting And Managing your own business”. He says this workshop helped him avoid several mistakes in setting up his business. He is now in a position where, as a member of SCORE, he can give back to the community and help people succeed in setting up their own business, or help an established company overcome some of the obstacles that he had to be overcome in his business.
