Twitter FAQ

Twitter is an easy to use online social networking tool.

Our twitter ID is @EB_PEN found at http://twitter.com/EB_PEN

A "tweet" is a mesasge that is 140 characters or less.

You can read many people or companies tweets without creating your own twitter ID, although many people lock their accounts to friends only setting. This is generally more important if it is a personal account.

So go ahead and set yourself up an account.

I would recommend if it is a business one that you use your name in some format or your business name if you have one.

Things to tweet:

  • job search info
  • skill set
  • points of interest related to your job field
  • programs you are attending
  • links to resources

(I will add more ideas later)

Things NOT to tweet:

  • how pretty your outfit is
  • what you ate for lunch
  • if you broke up with your partner
  • links to naughty pictures
  • photos of your kids and pets

Following:

There is a follow button on every page. If you follow someone it shows up in your stream on your twitter homepage.

You have the option of having it forwarded to your cell phone as well if you chose. Many phones with internet access also have twitter applications available to make it simpler.

People you follow can be broken down into categories or in twitter terms "lists". You can then view each relevant group rather than the entire stream.

One person I would recommend following is @mashable found at http://twitter.com/mashable. Pete Cashmore is the CEO and tweeter. It is all information relevant to social networking, particularly twitter.

If you go to our follow list you can follow them directly as well, or any lists that we will create.

I will add more information as it occurs to me. Feel free to post any questions you have and I will answer them in as timely a manner as possible. You can also add my business twitter ID @ymbass I am just getting that one started as my other one is way too personal for the job market. If you still do not understand the subtle differences contact me and I will help you get a handle on it.

On an end note, you will at some point meet the "Twitter Whale" who is decidely not your friend....
